We had an interesting Skype session on Monday with architect and design Ian- Douglas Jones from New Zealand. The purpose of the Skype lecture was to speak to use about his previous and current projects and to help inspire and endeavour our projects.
One of his main projects was the ‘Ice Hotel’ in Sweden. He got the opportunity to design one of the hotel rooms and was able to stay in his designed room for one night. I found this ice room intriguing as its very unique to create a space out of ice. The construct of the room as inspired by the Disney film ‘Tron’ this involved using neon lights and circuit patterns to create a sci-fi atmosphere. They harvest the ice specially for the hotel as it needs to be very thick and stable, it is also eco friendly as the ice just melts away so there is no need for deconstruction.
